Welcome to the AnimalWatch Vi: Building Graphics Literacy web site. Our project's aim was to support students with visual impairments in building their pre-algebra skills and ability to interpret information presented in graphics (e.g., bar graphs, maps). Research shows that if a student is not successful in pre-algebra he or she is less likely to succeed in higher level math. By pairing instruction in how to approach graphics with engaging content about environmental science issues, we increased the graphics literacy skills of students with visual impairments.

Our project officially ended December 31, 2019. We are currently working to make the iPad app, book of graphics, and teacher curriculum available.

Project Director L. Penny Rosenblum was interviewed for a podcast in May 2019. Listen to the podcast to learn more about our project and our preliminary findings.
